Complete Directions to Extract Oil from Cannabis Buds at Home with Excellent Results.
Producing cannabis oil at home is not all that hard. With a little presence of mind and the proper equipment, successfully extracting oil from cannabis buds is a procedure any adult is capable of carrying out. It will not have the same quality as professionally made CBD oil, which uses more sophisticated extracting and filtering techniques to obtain an optimal concentration rate.
However, it can be a good option for those who enjoy trying their hand at self-production while still obtaining a satisfactory and safe product. Here we explain how to make cannabis oil with a simple and effective method.
How to Make Cannabis Oil With Alcohol
To extract oil from Cannabis Sativa you can use alcohol or a vegetable oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil. In the first case, you will obtain a higher Cannabis concentration because, unlike oil, the alcohol evaporates during the procedure. For this reason, this is the production method we have chosen to illustrate. The ingredients and the instruments you will need are:
- 30 g high-quality ground Cannabis buds
- Food-safe 95-96% alcohol
- 2 bowls
- Gloves (NOT latex)
- Pestle or wooden spoon
- Fine mesh filter or cotton cloth
- Double boiler (or two different-sized pans)
- Syringes
Procedure:
Phase One
Place the ground buds in a bowl and pour the alcohol over them until they are completely submerged. Using gloves, stir them with the spoon or pound them delicately with the pestle for about 10 minutes, which allows the solvent to extract the CBD (cannabidiol) and the terpenes from the Cannabis.
Phase Two
Filter the solution you have obtained into the second bowl using the cloth or the filter to separate the alcohol from the ground buds. Put the ground buds back into the first bowl and repeat the first phase with fresh alcohol, then filter as before.
Phase Three
Pour the alcohol resulting from phase one and two into the double boiler or into a stainless steel pan that you can fit into a second pan full of water. Make sure the first pan isn’t touching the bottom of the second. Put it on the stove or, even better, a low-temperature hot plate: it will be sufficient to let the alcohol evaporate.
It is important to be very careful in this phase because the alcohol vapours are extremely flammable. For this reason, a hot plate is preferable because otherwise, you will have to keep the flames away from the vapours, turning the stove off when the water boils. While the alcohol evaporates, stir the substance to obtain a dense texture, being careful not to inhale the fumes.
Phase Four
Collect the resulting extract with the syringes and store them in a dark place, maybe wrapped in aluminium foil, ready for use. You can dilute the cannabis oil in olive oil or use drops placed under your tongue.
